Guess she ought to dream bigger now.... Thanks to a great tip from Angie over at Murphy's in Maryville, the Girls had the opportunity to attend a lecture/reading with Steve Earle at the Hodge's Auditorium Library on the UT campus on 30 January. They arrived early and were thrilled to be first in line, which guaranteed Oona a front row center seat right under Steve's nose! (She couldn't have been closer!)

Steve read from his book of short stories "Doghouse Roses", some of his poetry, the first chapter of his soon to be released novel, and a few essays. He also spoke passionately about his views on abolishing the death penalty, bringing soldiers home from an unnecessary war, the state of our nation's political arena, and some of his own life stories for 2 glorious hours and fifteen minutes.

Everyone who comes out to a Cinnamon Girls gig, knows that Steve Earle is Oona's one true living hero. An anomaly in the music industry he actually takes action in his beliefs not only through his music, but through his writings and through his committment to his causes. This seperates him from his counter-parts in the industry. He is out there every day fighting for basic human rights for people who might not other wise have a voice. His music & his body of work inspires and pisses people off, and that makes him a hero.

Oona had the opportunity to speak with Steve for a few moments, he signed her Gibson Guitar and a copy of Doghouse Roses. She confessed his hero status and left feeling a sensation of complete joy from just being in his presence. Completely star-struck and inspired, you can expect to hear new things at the upcoming gigs.
